Pythagoras Academy is proud to partner up with the best Fine and Performing Art institutions in Vancouver and provide superb programs to Pythagoras Academy students as well as to children in the Richmond community.
Music: Our After School Music program is offered by the VSO School of Music, the only music school in North America founded by a major symphony orchestra. Pythagoras Academy enjoys an exclusive association with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra by providing a unique learning environment in which students of all ages can work directly with professional musicians and top-level educators in the fields of classical, jazz and world music. Students are able to interact with the orchestra by sitting on the stage with the VSO during rehearsals, working directly with the world-class guest artists who perform with the VSO each year, and being a part of a musical community that celebrates and encourages excellence and achievement. Please check the website http://www.vsoschoolofmusic.ca/programs/the-vso-school-advantage/richmond-satellite-location/ for more information.
Dance: The After School Dance Program is offered by the Goh Ballet Dance Academy, a world renowned dance academy whose students have been receiving enormous recognition on the stages around the world. By participating in this program, students will have the opportunity to study dance with instructors certified by the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.). In addition to building on essential ballet techniques, students will be exposed to the importance of group interaction, creativity and joy of self-expression. Please check their website http://www.gohballet.com for more information about the academy.
Visual Arts: The After School Visual Arts Program is offered by Arts Umbrella, a non-profit art education centre for children and youth. They will be offering two classes per week at Pythagoras Academy in the 2014/15 school year. The Architecture Meaning and Making class teaches students how to communicate three-dimensional ideas in drawing, and how to translate those drawings and ideas into models. Through model-making, students learn to understand structural systems, connection methods, strength and span capability – all important elements of understanding how buildings work. The class includes studying skyscrapers, bridges and green technologies, too. The Drawing & Painting classes use many kinds of tools, techniques and materials to express students’ own creativity by applying critical thinking and problem solving skills with a practicing artist instructor within a theme. Students may use a variety of materials including charcoal, chalk pastel and water colors and many other media to create artworks that depict inspiration from practicing artists. Please go to http://www.artsumbrella.com for more information about Arts Umbrella.
